Mexico Approvals

1 – ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY

Mandatory certification, which may be requested by manufacturers, importers, distributors and traders of electrical products, and applies to:

  1. Household Appliances of any kind. Applicable standard: NOM-003-SCFI-2014-Electric products.
  2. Electrical tools. Applicable standard: NOM-003-SCFI-2014 -Electrical products.
  3. Reactors for gas discharge lamps. Applicable standard NOM-058-SCFI – Products.
  4. Fixtures for internal and external use. NOM-064-SCFI-2000 – Electrical products – Fixtures for internal and external use.

2 – GAS INDUSTRY

Mandatory certification, which can be requested by manufacturers, importers and distributors. It applies to equipment such as:

  1. Heaters
  2. Grids
  3. Ovens
  4. Water heaters
  5. Room heaters
  6. Low pressure regulators, etc.

3 – ELECTRONIC INDUSTRY

Mandatory certification, which may be requested by manufacturers, importers and distributors of electronic products, and applies to:

  1. Electronic household appliances powered by a variety of power supplies. Standard NOM-001-SCFI
  2. Office appliances powered by various power supplies. Standard NOM-016-SCFI
  3. Data processing equipment. Standard NOM-019-SCFI
  4. Copy machines and / or document duplicators. Standard NMX-I-011-NYCE
  5. Audio and video electronic devices and musical instruments for home, commercial and similar use. Standard NMX-I-062-NYCE
  6. Battery chargers. Standard NMX-I-063-NYCE
  7. Electronic power systems (UPS). Standard NMX-I-163-NYCE

4 – HIGHLY SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT

According to the Official Mexican Standard NOM-019-SCFI-1998, the highly specialized equipment is those that comply with the technical characteristics established in item 1.2 of the standard, and which are not commercially available to the general public, but to those business users or institutions that install, operate and update such equipment directly or in co-responsibility with the provider company.

5 – MEASURING EQUIPMENT

Mandatory certification, which can be requested by manufacturers, importers and distributors of this type of products, and applies to:

  1. Taximeters NOM-007-SCFI- Measuring instruments.
  2. Mercury column sphygmomanometers and elastic sensor element for measuring blood pressure. NOM-009-SCFI.
  3. Non-automatic operating balances, standard NOM-010-SCFI.
  4. Time registers. Standard NOM-048-SFCI.

6 – TIRE INDUSTRY

Mandatory certification, which may be requested by manufacturers, importers and distributors, and applies to the following products:

  1. Tires for motor vehicles of more than 4 536 kg (10 000 Lb). NOM-086/1-SCFI and NOM-086-SCFI
  2. Tires for cars. Standard NOM-121-SCFI
  3. Tires for bicycles. Standard NOM-121-SCFI

7 – TELECOMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT

Mexican regulatory entities are very demanding in the telecommunications field. For this reason, it is established that any telecommunications equipment that is manufactured, imported or marketed in the Mexican territory, must have Homologation based on NOM norms elaborated by the communications and transport secretariat.

  1. Transmitting equipment intended for the mobile service. Standard NOM-084-SCT1
  2. Microwave equipment for use in point-to-point and multipoint multi-point fixed service systems. Standard NOM-088/1-SCT1 part I and II
  3. Terminal equipment that connects by wire to a public telecommunications network. Standard NOM-196-SCFI
  4. Public network equipment with digital interfaces (2 048 KBITS / S digital interface and 34 368 KBIT / s). Standard NOM-EM-017-SCFI
  5. Blocking equipment within social rehabilitation centers and penitentiary establishments. Standard NOM-EM-018-SCFI
  6. Radio-communication products using the spread spectrum technique. Frequency hopping and digital modulation radio communication equipment operating in the bands 902-928 MHz, 2400-2483.5 MHz and 5725-5850 MHz. NOM-208-SCFI standard

8 – ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The Mexican government has established a series of specific standards to ensure compliance with energy efficiency regulations through CONUEE (National Energy Efficiency Commission), a body that belongs to the Mexican Energy Secretariat.

These standards apply to an extensive list of equipment such as refrigerators, washers, air conditioners, among others, whether for commercial or domestic use.
